Explore Home Compostable BioCups & Lids
BioPak are excited to share that BioCups now feature an innovative water-based aqueous dispersion coating and are certified home compostable to Australian standards (AS5810), marking a significant step towards sustainability!
The BioPak aqueous coating technology is printed like water-based ink, allowing it to be absorbed into the paper fibres, rather than sitting on top as an additional layer. This reduces the material needed while also providing the same leak and grease-proof benefits as other coatings.
Complementing this innovation are the BioPak plastic-free lids made from rapidly renewable plant fibre, completely free from added PFAS for a full home compostable solution!
The BioPak-certified home compostable cups have gone through a strict test regime to make sure they’ll start to break down within 180 days and completely disintegrate after 12 months. That means you can throw them in your backyard compost and they’ll return to the soil.
Benefits of Composting
There are so many benefits of composting, for people and the planet. Here are 7 top reasons to give it a go.
1. Creates a Nutrient-Rich Resource
Rather than sending food waste to landfill, composting turns trash into treasure. Compost adds nutrients and beneficial microorganisms to the soil, which can regenerate depleted soils and help plants thrive!
2. Reduces Carbon Emissions
If we compost more, i.e. less food waste will go to landfill, significantly reducing potent methane emissions. But it’s not just reducing emissions – compost can capture carbon from the atmosphere and put it back into the ground!
3. Creates Healthy Plants
By adding nutrients to the soil, compost encourages thriving plants, reducing the risk of pests and diseases.
4. Conserves Water
It’s simple – healthy, nutrient-rich soils often require less water. This can conserve water in the irrigation process and reduce the impact of drought.
5. Improves Agricultural Yields
By improving soil health and plant growth, we can encourage higher yields of crops.
6. Prevents Soil Erosion
Healthy soil is less susceptible to erosion. Nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus can help the soil hold more water and reduce the risk of erosion.
7. Habitat Restoration
Healthy soils create healthy habitats. Compost can help aid reforestation, wetlands restoration and habitat revitalisation efforts.
